Officers also issued 878 citations to passenger drivers for various violations. Officers were looking for violations by both passenger vehicles and trucks such as improper lane use, careless and reckless driving, speeding, following too closely and failure to yield the right-of-way.

In the June 2016 crash, a seven-passenger SUV with a total of 11 occupants was hit from behind by a 2016 Volvo tractor-trailer on I-70 near Goodland, Kansas, killing six and injuring five. NTSB found fault with both the trucker and the SUV driver.
