Last month at the Mid-America Trucking Show, Kenworth Truck Co. introduced its sweet-looking limited-edition Icon 900 tractor, and it sure didn’t take long for Murphy-Hoffman Co. to sign up. The dealership, with locations in 13 states, will receive the first 50 Icon trucks. The Icon 900s offers the classic styling of the company’s W900L, a 130-in.-BBC long-nose conventional with an extended hood. The trucks are available with 72-inch flat-top or 86-inch studio configurations.

All will have 550-hp Cummins ISX15 engines and 18-speed transmissions and will feature many stainless steel accessories and a one-of-a-kind chrome hood badge. MHC ordered the trucks in a variety of color choices, including Galaxy Blue, Viper Red and Speed Orange. Other features include leather seats, a sofa bed, stainless-steel fender guards, upgraded headlights, headlamp covers, LED lighting, under-door and sleeper panels, a grille closeout panel and a 13-inch drop visor.

Moving on the Kenworth’s Paccar brethren at Peterbilt Motor Co., customers who purchase a new Pete truck and finance through Paccar Financial can receive complementary extended warranty coverage. The offer is available until March 31, 2016, on trucks in dealer inventory or truck orders received by Peterbilt prior to Dec. 31, 2015.

The extended warranty includes three years or 300,000 miles of basic coverage for Class 8 vehicles; and two years or 150,000 miles of basic coverage for Class 5-7 vehicles. According to Peterbilt, the additional warranty is valued at about $2,915 for heavy-duty trucks and about $660 for medium-duty trucks.

Finally, the good folks at Webb Wheel Products Co. were justifiably proud to announced that U.S. Xpress Enterprises, one of the nation’s largest privately-owned truckload carriers, chose its Webb Vortex Unlimited brake drums for its fleet of 8,000 over-the road tractors and 22,000 trailers when replacement drums are required. U.S. Xpress also will spec the Webb Vortex Unlimited drum for new equipment purchases.
