In polling over the summer, 8 in 10 Overdrive readers reported opposing President Obama’s deal intended to slow Iran’s capability of building a nuclear bomb, which reached an approval threshold today in the U.S. Senate. It joins the United States with other nations in lifting some of the international economic sanctions on Iran in exchange for monitoring of Iran’s nuclear capabilities and domestic nuclear power production, among other stipulations, over a 10-year period.

Reader Travis Handleson said the “deal is so bad, it’s laughable Obama thinks the American people will buy it.”

The margin of opposition to the deal shows strengthening sentiment against negotiations with the country among readers. In December 2013, more than half of readers said that Iran should not be allowed to pursue nuclear power development without international sanctions.
