Maryland eliminates E-ZPass transponder fee

Truckers planning to use an E-ZPass transponder for electronic toll collection in Maryland will no longer have to pay $7.50 for the transponder.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced in May that the Maryland Transportation Authority is permanently eliminating the transponder fee for new customers. Additionally, MDTA will replace 400,000 old transponders that are currently being used for free.

Anyone who bought a transponder this year for $7.50 will be issued a credit for the cost as long as the account is registered and in good standing. If drivers are based in Maryland, there is no monthly fee for the Maryland E-ZPass service.

According to Hogan’s press release, E-ZPass saves at least 25 percent on Maryland tolls.
