If you wonder why the lush blue show truck at the Great American Trucking Show is named “Opening Act,” owner Dan Brubaker has a quick answer: the shop his family recently opened in southeast Iowa, One of a Kind Customs.

“This is the first ground-up build we’ve done out of the shop,” he says Brubaker, who’s based in Sigourney, Iowa.

Brubaker says the Caterpillar-powered 2003 Peterbilt 379 sits on a 302-inch wheelbase. “We did a lot of custom modifications, including the button-tuck interior. That’s all white with blue buttons to match the exterior. We did strapless air cleaners, strapless air tanks. We did a boltless frame from the bunk back to the rear suspension. We’ve got custom-cut rims.”

“Opening Act” is among dozens of trucks competing in Overdrive’s Pride & Polish at GATS. Winners will be announced Saturday morning. The show opened today.
