Bay Bridge remains closed

Updated Oct 30, 2009

California’s San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge remains closed to repair the crossbar and two rods that came loose and fell to the pavement yesterday, Oct. 27.

Crews completed welding on a section of the bridge but the repair still has to be tested for safety, said a spokeswoman for the California Department of Transportation.

The bridge was closed after the rods and a 5,000-pound crossbeam fell during afternoon rush hour traffic on Tuesday. The parts that collapsed were part of a repair done over Labor Day.
