Oberman Logistics owner Wes Oberman's personal truck is this Kenworth T680 -- purchased to replace a lower-fuel-mileage 2020 389 that powered his maiden voyage in trucking as an owner-operator. He's getting 10 mpg now, and providing a reliable home for leased owners. As of July 2026, the fleet's up to 14 trucks and set up for further growth.

After taking over the family biz in 1999 with one truck, Clifford Hay II built well beyond a single unit, showing plenty resiliency and commitment to customers. Hay was a 2025 Small Fleet Champ finalist, and with the 2026 July 31 entry deadline fast approaching, the owner's regrouping after another big hit.

Turnage & Sons' size balancing act with organic bulk milk: Small Fleet Champ update
After growing the fleet to as many as 40 trucks, Robbie Turnage found balance right around 30 trucks to ensure equipment's maintained, drivers and customers taken care of. With time running out before the July 31 Small Fleet Champ entry deadline, the 2025 finalist noted change on that front. He never expected he'd haul milk from the Southeast to California.

Operator mounts legal challenge to FMCSA's autonomous truck warning-device waiver
FMCSA renewed an exemption in July for autonomous truck maker Aurora to be able to use cab-mounted warning beacons instead of warning triangles, extending it also to other developers who opt in. Cargo van operator petitioned in federal court to stop the move.
