Castaway
Florida native David Geer lives in Fruitvale, Texas, but carries coastal memories with him on the road. “The beach is my favorite place, and there aren’t many things better than a truck parked by the beach,” he says. His truck, Marooned, is a 1998 Peterbilt 379 with a 325-inch wheelbase. The cab and 120-inch ICT sleeper have redwood floors and Talladega leather seats. The beach murals were painted by Scott Signs Co. of Grand Rapids, Mich.
Alf and his Hog
This 2001 Kenworth W900 is powered by a 550-hp Caterpillar. It has a 13-speed transmission and an 86-inch studio sleeper. Owner D.J. McCabe drives this truck and has nine others leased to Road Scholar Transport in Lynchburg, Va. He owns six Peterbilts, two Internationals and two Kenworths. He thinks the perfect truck would be a Peterbilt 379 with an 86-inch Kenworth studio sleeper. McCabe is also a fan of Alf, an alien in a sitcom that ran in the late 1980s. The cartoons of Alf were painted on the truck by Danny St. Clair of Glasgow, Va.
Last but not least
Hank Dekens of Monmouth Beach, N.J., calls this 2000 Peterbilt 379 his Last Ride because he says at age 69, he probably won’t buy many more trucks. He’s still with Premier of Long Beach, Calif., hauling machinery across the country. His latest truck has a 550-hp Caterpillar with an 18-speed transmission and 3.70 rears. It’s also equipped with a three-cylinder Kubota gen-set and satellite television. Wood accents highlight the interior.
