OTR drivers at Crete, Shaffer to receive pay boost

Updated Nov 29, 2016

creteCrete Carrier (No. 22 on the CCJ Top 250) and Shaffer Trucking are giving their national over-the-road drivers a one-cent per practical mile raise in 2017, Crete announced Nov. 18.

Crete’s OTR drivers will now receive 49 cents per practical mile, and Shaffer’s OTR drivers will now receive 52 cents per practical mile.

Crete cites higher demand from customers and more miles for drivers as the main reasoning behind the pay increase. The company says miles have been increasing month-over-month and year-over-year during the last four months, and Crete and Shaffer both expect demand to continue throughout 2017.

The raise will take effect Jan. 1. Some regional and dedicated fleets will also receive a pay boost, Crete says. Both companies say they have upgraded half of their trucks in the last 15 months, making the average age of trucks at each company less than two years old.
