Truck drivers planning to drive west through Phoenix this weekend should plan for an alternate route due to construction that will close a section of I-10.
Westbound I-10 will be closed between 51st and 83rd avenues between 10 p.m. Friday, May 10, and 5 a.m. Monday, May 13. The closure will allow Arizona Department of Transportation crews to apply a new layer of asphalt through the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway work zone.
ADOT suggests drivers consider taking Loop 101 west of I-17 to get around the closure.
The Loop 202 construction project is expected to be fully completed in 2020, but traffic is expected to be able to use the freeway sooner. It will provide an alternative to I-10 through downtown Phoenix.
