Well, not exactly, but what might be the next best thing is the story of 43-year-old tow driver Ollie Ray Whitworth of Fort Worth, Texas, and his 18-year-old son, Ollie Ray Jr., who were directed out of their two truck at gunpoint in the yard of Abandoned Vehicle Enforcement, 6831 Old Randol Mill Road in Fort Worth during a robbery last week. Two burglars, their identities concealed by bandanas and skull caps, took a “cash register drawer and fled on foot,” reported the Dallas Star-Telegram. It was just a short while later, after the Whitworths heard the suspects rattling the yard’s locked gate trying to get out, that they acted, giving chase in their tow truck. When they caught up with the burglars, still on foot, the Star-Telegram reported, the suspects “>fired shots at the pursuing truck but it didn’t deter the Whitworths, who continued to chase them through the parking lot of the Temple Baptist Church and into a field behind a mobile home park. There, the Whitworths drove in circles around the two,” trying to knock them to them ground. They succeeded with one, all the while drawing gunfire, after which they held him down until police arrived, but the other was able to flee in a white Chevy Caprice.

Police lieutenant Paul Henderson had this to say: “>This could have had very tragic results. . . . Police departments never advise taking the law into your own hands.” Don’t tell that to the Whitworths.
