Deadliest NorthwesternThe “Deadliest Catch” TV show on the Discovery Channel, chronicling the lives of fishers on Alaskan King Crab boats, might seem as far removed from the world of long-haul trucking as it’s possible to be. But in a short couple weeks at the Mid-America Trucking Show at the Chevron Delo booth No. 14140, drivers from around the country will have the opportunity to meet Edgar Hansen, Deck Boss and Chief Engineer of the Northwestern (pictured) vessel and long-featured on the show as the younger brother of Captain Sig Hansen. Edgar (also pictured) will posed for photos and sign autographs Thursday, March 31, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. (VIP Hours) and 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. (General Admission).

Delo lubricants keep the Northwestern well-oiled, and according to Hansen, “When I’m 250 miles from shore in the harsh Bearing Sea, the last thing I want to worry about is engine wear or malfunctioning cranes. That’s why I trust the Delo family of products to protect our equipment and help get us back to safe harbor.”

He began fishing at age 18 and came into his own on deck after only a few seasons. He is known as the “Deck Boss” (an informal title given to the senior man on the fishing deck). Edgar maintains all of the machinery onboard and is the go-to guy on deck.  If there’s a problem, the guys bring it to his attention, either for advice or for him to fix. Edgar says that “these boats are like floating cities. You’re dependent on your own systems, electrical, pumps, hydraulics and mechanicals. You need to know how to maintain them to stay alive.”
