Jannie Reece of Waynseboro, Tenn., has been named the latest Truckload Carriers Association Highway Angel for her efforts in helping put out a fire in a car burning on the Interstate.

Reece was traveling down I-20 in Leeds, Ala., on June 25 at 2:15 a.m. when a small car pulled up beside her and suddenly caught fire.

The driver pulled over to the side of the road, and Reece followed suit, grabbing her fire extinguisher.

When she made it to the car, the the driver and a passenger were standing near the car. Reece began spraying the car underneath the vehicle to try to douse the flames, and β€” against her advising β€” the driver of the car opened the car’s hood to take a look, causing flames to shoot up.

Reece moved to spray the new flames, burning her hand slightly.

When the fire was out, she called 911 to report the situation.

Reece has been a driver for 21 years and currently drives for Transco Lines out of Russellville, Ark.

She has been presented with a certificate, patch and lapen pin recognizing her as a Highway Angel.
