An online public listening session will be held next week to help electronic logging device makers determine if their products meet the device requirements spelled out in the DOT’s freshly published ELD mandate, set to take effect in December 2017.
The meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 25., from 1-3 p.m. Eastern, and the target audience is ELD suppliers, FMCSA says, though the meeting is open to the public.
The final ELD rule, published in December, says providers don’t have to use FMCSA’s compliance test procedures, but these will be the procedures used by FMCSA, such as during investigations, to determine whether a device is compliant or not. The meeting will focus solely on the compliance test procedures, FMCSA said.
Anyone interested in attending can register for the webinar here and can also submit written comments by Tuesday, Feb. 23 by searching Docket No. FMCSA-2016-0054 at www.regulations.gov once the notice is published in the Federal Register on Wednesday, Feb. 17.
The meeting will be used to satisfy the requirement in the final rule published in December that stated the “FMCSA will publish compliance test procedures to assist providers in determining whether their products meet the requirements.”
