Missouri replacing I-70 bridge, encouraging alternate routes

The Missouri Department of Transportation will replace the westbound Interstate 70 Blanchette Bridge over the Missouri River between St. Louis and St. Charles, Mo., at mile marker 230. The work began Friday, with all traffic sharing the eastbound bridge, consisting of three 10- to -11 foot wide lanes. A 45-mph speed limit is set for the work zone. Commercial drivers, especially hazmat drivers and carriers, are encouraged to use 1-270 and Mo. 370 as an alternate route, which adds five miles, but is expected to be a quicker option. The westbound bridge will remain closed until fall 2013. For more information about this project, please visit the Missouri Dep. of Transportation site.
