Two experts on owner-operator business practices will be featured in an Overdrive’s Partners in Business online presentation tonight, Aug. 25, the second in a weeklong series of Overdrive’s GATS Week events.

Kevin Rutherford and Gary Buchs will spend most of an hour-long session answering questions submitted in advance and during the program as it’s streamed live via Overdrive‘s Facebook page. Rutherford is a former owner-operator, small-fleet owner and owner-operator accountant. He’s the longtime host of “Trucking Business & Beyond,” a five-day weekly program on Sirius XM, the owner of LetsTruck.com, a former Overdrive columnist and longtime presenter at Partners in Business seminars.

Buchs was named the 2016 Owner-Operator of the Year by the Truckload Carriers Association and Overdrive. A former Landstar contractor, he received many Landstar Star of Quality awards. Buchs’ community involvement earned him the TravelCenters of America Citizen Driver award in 2015.

Now retired as a driver, Buchs is an owner-operator consultant and regular contributor to the Overdrive Extra blog.

In addition to the panel discussion, GATS Week is featuring other evening events during the same week the Great American Trucking Show was scheduled, Aug. 24-28, before it was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. All events will be streamed on Overdrive‘s Facebook page, starting at 8 p.m. EST (5 p.m. PST).

One of those events will be an Aug. 26 presentation and Q&A on the new hours of service rule with Joe DeLorenzo, director of enforcement and compliance for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

The first evening’s Partners in Business seminar featured the following presentation by and Q&A with Todd Amen, president of ATBS, detailing second-quarter income/revenue benchmarks for owner-ops to weigh their own business performance — as well as forecasting for the remainder of the year. Prepare for the downside, Amen said, and if there is an upside, it’ll take care of itself in the form of better profits.
