Restored 1972 Peterbilt 282 a gem of the highway

Ken Joiner's 1972 Peterbilt 282

Ken Joiner bought this gem of trucking history -- a 1972 Peterbilt 282 -- in 2011. Joiner said the truck was formerly owned by Maggini Trucking out of Riverdale, California. He used his wrecked 1977 Peterbilt 282 that was an old R.F. Wicall truck out of Calabasas, California, to restore this '72 model and "repainted [it] in Wildcat colors."

It's powered by a 450-hp Big Cam Cummins with a 13-speed. Joiner put the truck in service on May 15, 2012. This '72 and the wrecked '77 are the only two trucks he's driven since 1983, he said. He hauled hay, bulk field almonds and cotton bails with the rig. The photo was taken by Paul Fernandez in Imperial Valley in 2017.
