The St. Christopher Fund announced that in 2012 the organization was able to assist 214 drivers and their families with over $158,000. These numbers bring the fund’s total to 711 beneficiaries from $348,000. The majority of recipients suffered from cancer, diabetes and heart disease. According to SCF officials, 68 percent of the donations came from fellow drivers, mostly earned at fundraising events. The SCF also added two new members to its team this year: Joyce Brenny and Linda Caffee. Brenny is an owner-operator with 33 years of experience and numerous awards. Caffee has driven for eight years and is a member of the Trucking Solutions Group Health Council.
Affected tractors are equipped with an automated Eaton UltraShift Plus or Eaton Advantage Transmission with right hand stalk shifter. In the affected trucks, the display on the instrument panel can indicate “N” when the shifter is set into “D” or “R,” causing the truck not to move.
