Wilson’s request would still require a CDL holder in the truck at all times, but not necessarily in the front seat. Wilson says the exemption would allow the CLP holder “to participate in a revenue-generating trip back to his or her state of domicile to obtain the CDL.”

FMCSA officially adopts rules requiring background checks for hazmat CDL endorsement
The finalization of these interim final rules has no bearing on current drivers or carriers, as the rules have been in place since 2003 and 2005, respectively. The rules require drivers to undergo a TSA background check or hold a TWIC in order to receive a hazmat endorsement on their CDL.

Comment period for FMCSA pilot program for under-21 interstate truckers ends next week
Drivers and interested parties can now comment on the proposal through Aug. 14. The proposal would expand the current under-21 program for military-trained drivers to drivers under the age of 21 that were not trained to drive trucks in the military.

Comment period opens for proposed CDL knowledge test change
The rule, if made final, would not require states to offer CDL knowledge tests to out-of-state drivers, but it would give states the option to offer the tests, then transmit the results to the driver’s home state, which would then be required to accept the results.

Drivers convicted of human trafficking to receive lifetime CDL ban
Following President Trump’s signature of the No Human Trafficking on Our Roads Act, FMCSA’s new rule will prohibit an individual from operating a commercial vehicle for life if that person uses a commercial vehicle in committing a felony involving severe human trafficking.
