Tools to help truckers get their jobs done

Even the best, most proficient truck driver on the road today needs a little help from time to time, and he can get it from some of today’s top technologies.

Go Chair provides compact seating

Truckers of a certain age will remember the advent of the iconic folding lawn chair. Made of lightweight aluminum tubes laced with nylon webbing, they revolutionized the family picnic by providing plenty of comfortable seating.

Much has changed since then, but one thing has remained constant: the need for a chair that is both comfortable and portable. And, for truckers, one that does not take up a lot of valuable cab space.

The Go Chair fills that bill nicely. The makers claim it folds down to about the size of a water bottle yet supports up to 300 pounds.

Portable keyboard perfect for the road

The Logitech K780 multi-device wireless keyboard — with numeric keys — is compatible with PC, Mac, Chrome, Android, and iOS devices. The K780 keyboard connects to your device via Bluetooth or USB and features an Easy-Switch button that lets you go from typing on your large monitor to your smartphone and back again easily.

On the back is a padded notch to hold your tablet or smartphone at the ideal viewing angle.

The K780 keyboard is powered by two AAA batteries (included), which won’t need to be changed for a solid two years.

Back-to-basics slow cooker

The Hamilton Beach 33461 Stay or Go 6-Quart Portable Slow Cooker is like a lot of the trucks on the highway today.

While there are many with plenty more whistles and bells, this model gets the job done and is ideal for the sometimes particular job of in-cab cooking.

The six-quart Stay Or Go model from Hamilton Beach has plenty of capacity, features easy-to-use analog controls (High, low and warm settings) and has a hinged, attached lid that locks down and stays in place. Call us old school, but we like the no-nonsense approach of this slow-cooker.

American-made truckers’ wallet

The folks at Filson make a trucker’s wallet that will serve your needs for as long as you are in the driver’s seat and years beyond.

Seattle-based Filson is one of those legendary all-American brands that have always made high-quality gear. Best known among outdoors enthusiasts, fly fishermen, and loggers, Filson made a name for itself with its heavy-duty “tin cloth” jackets and other outerwear.

It now offers a classic trucker’s wallet with a chain that is made of top quality leather, is weatherproof and measures 7 ⅜” x 5”; it’s almost a mini-briefcase.
