Arkansas-based owner-operator Weaver, pictured with his wife, Carol Ann, who managed to schedule upward of 20 booth performances daily for Bill at the Great American Trucking Show this year in Dallas (aka ‘The Bill Weaver Show’). The new record is available for purchase and download via online music retailers and via CD direct from BillWeaverMusic.com.My colleague “Long Haul Paul” Marhoefer wrote a bit about one track and a little more from the record a few weeks back, and here Weaver elaborates on the genesis of many of the record’s songs, its central themes splitting the difference between love of the work of trucking and the angst over the layers of difficulty thrown into the mix via regulatory schemes over the last decade and more. I caught up with Weaver in Dallas, where we talked outside the convention center for the podcast. The record was laid down and produced in part with members of a band called the Stone Creek Four out of Kingsport, Tennessee. Weaver performed three nights running with the Four at the truck-parking community at GATS.
Weaver on Thursday, Aug. 23, with the Stone Creek Four at GATS, backed by a tanker of Heniff Transportation of Oak Brook, Ill., where Weaver’s leased hauling hazmat.
The band also backed fellow Heniff driver and well-known trucker-singer Brad James as he ran through a variety of tunes.With any luck, Weaver says, he’ll have new material — perhaps even a new full-length album — recorded and produced in time for the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky.
