U.S. diesel price drops 3rd straight week, off 5 cents

For the third straight week, the national average retail price of a gallon of diesel declined. The price dropped 5.2 cents to $2.781, according to the Department of Energy.

All regions reported lower average prices, ranging from 2 cents in the Rocky Mountain area to 6 cents in the Central Atlantic.

New England is the only region with an average price above $3 at $3.017. The Midwest was the cheapest area at $2.731.
