Angsten chosen as newest Freightliner Slice of Life driver

Gina Angsten is the newest driver in Freightliner’s Slice of Life program. She was chosen from more than 400 applicants to test drive a Freightliner Cascadia and will begin blogging about her experiences on the road in May when she gets behind the wheel of her new truck.

The 2010 Cascadia is equipped with a 2010 Detroit Diesel DD15 engine with BlueTec SCR Emissions technology and Detroit Diesel’s 1-Box configuration.

Angsten and the first Slice of Life drivers – Henry Albert, Kurt Grote and Dick McCorkle – will comment on new technology and new trucks as part of their participation in the program’s second season.

A resident of St. Joseph, Mo., Angsten has been a commercial driver for nearly 17 years. After getting her start in Denver with a small local company, she began driving over-the-road for Westway Express, where she traveled through all 48 states. Angsten, who also served as a trainer and dispatcher for Westway, purchased her first truck during this time.

“I just love being a trucker. I like waking up in a different city every day, and I’ve met some really great people while out on the road,” Angsten says. “It’s not a job for me – it’s a lifestyle – so being an owner-operator really suits me.”
