After hitting its highest level in 18 months last week, the national average retail price of a gallon of diesel dropped this week, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The price fell 3.3 cents to $3.094 in the latest week, the biggest drop in 16 weeks.
All regions reported sizable decreases, led by a 4.5-cent decline on the Gulf Coast. The Midwest dropoff was 3.5 cents to $3.067. California fell 3.1 cents to $3.238. All regions remained above $3 a gallon.
