Con-way offers 2-level trailers

Con-way Truckload has introduced DoubleStack, which provides two adjustable trailer-length levels to accommodate shipments of different dimensions.

The truckload carrier initially converted 100 of its 53-foot trailers to the DoubleStack system. Additional unit conversions are planned for later this year, based on customer demand.

These trailers have thick aluminum tracks attached to supporting vertical posts every 16 inches along the trailer walls. Adjustable bars or cross beams clamp into each track. The metal cross beams are height-adjustable and can handle freight pallets of varied sizes, while maximizing freight stability anywhere in the trailer. The system can accommodate fragile products that must be segregated and pallets with products of varying height dimensions and stability, the company said.

Customers benefit through DoubleStack’s lower costs, reduced facility traffic and highly secured freight, the company said.

A YouTube demonstration of the DoubleStack may be seen at www.youtube.com/ConwayInc.
