Diesel prices surge

For the third week in a row, the national average retail price of a gallon of diesel increased this week, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The national price gained 6.3 cents to $2.991 in the latest week, the biggest jump in four months.

The price is 36.6 cents higher than a year ago.

All regions reported large increases led by the Lower Atlantic area at 7.2 cents. The Midwest rose 6.6 cents, while the Gulf Coast gained 6 cents a gallon and remained the cheapest region to buy diesel. California diesel rose 5.1 cents to $3.183, the most expensive in the U.S.
