For the ninth straight week, the national average retail price of diesel increased, gaining 0.8 cent to $3.438 during the week ended Jan. 31, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.
Prices rose moderately in all regions, led by New England’s gain of 2.4 cents to $3.633, the highest in the nation. The East Coast increased 1.4 cents $3.494. California gained 1 cent to $3.612 a gallon. The Gulf Coast increased 0.2 cent to $3.533.
The national average price is 65.7 cents higher than the same week last year and is at the highest level since late October 2008, when the price was $3.488.
