Diesel averages $4.10

The national average retail price of diesel increased another 2.7 cents to $4.105 a gallon during the week ended April 18, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.

The biggest gain was 5.8 cents to $4.212 in New England. California rose another 4.3 cents to $4.44, the nation’s highest. The West Coast, excluding California, gained 1.1 cents to $4.319. The Gulf Coast increased 3.2 cents to $4.033. All regions pierced the $4 a gallon level the previous week.

The national average price is at its highest level since Sept. 1, 2008, when it was $4.121 and $1.03 a gallon higher than the same week last year.
