Diesel price declines

At Pump 2 OdFor the fifth straight week, the U.S. average diesel price dropped, falling 3.7 cents to $3.791 through Dec. 26, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.

Over the last five weeks, the national price has dropped 21.9 cents. The latest price is 49.7 cents higher than a year earlier.

Prices decreased in all regions, topped by 5.9 cents to $3.706 in the Midwest. The Rocky Mountain region dropped 5.2 cents to $3.861. With the recent price declines, only California at $4.039 remains above $4 a gallon.

The record diesel price was $4.764 in July 2008.
