EPA sets retreaded-tire standard

Yokohama Ry617The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is utilizing a Yokohama Tire Corporation commercial truck tire casing to establish a SmartWay verification program for retreaded tires used on Class 8 line-haul trucks. Following certification of a retreaded tire, fleets using the tires will be compliant with CARB regulations for tire rolling resistance. All retreads will be measured against a target number for rolling resistance and will be used for all treads with conventional-width tires used in dual configuration.
