Williams Named ATA Driver of the Year

The American Trucking Associations named Steven Williams of Lakewood, Colo., its 2001 National Driver of the Year Sept. 26.

Williams drives for Nobel Sysco of Denver. As the 2000 Colorado Driver of the Year, he competed against his counterparts from 49 other states for the national title. Williams was honored at ATA’s 2001 Safety & Loss Prevention Management Council fall conference in Nashville, Tenn.

Williams has 32 years of experience in trucking and has driven more than 3.5 million accident-free miles. Most of his daily driving involves pulling twin trailers in the Colorado mountains.

When not behind the wheel, Williams is heavily involved in the International Special Olympics. He has been inducted into the Colorado Special Olympics Hall of Fame as an Outstanding Volunteer.

“Steven Williams is a great representative of the men and women who drive our trucks safely and professionally every day,” said William Canary, ATA interim president and CEO. “He goes the extra mile, making a meaningful contribution to his community as well.”
