Con-way driver achieves 2 million miles
Con-way driver Steven Ruesken of Effingham, Ill., has achieved 2 million accident-free miles. He safely drove the miles starting in January 1991, reaching the 2-million mark on July 11. Ruesken has been a professional driver with Con-way for 22 years.

Con-way Truckload announced its Drivers of the Month for April, May and June 2009. April winners were Company Driver Jim Gilley, Company Team Richard Dyer and Richard Dyer II, Contractor Driver Thomas Rice and Contractor Team Stacy and Donna Moran. May winners were Company Driver Randy Simon, Company Team Lauren and Wanda Rodd, Contractor Driver Victor Fierro and Contractor Team Sokphat Sao and Mom Prom. June winners were Company Driver Thomas Andrews, Company Team Doug Morgan and Cathy Dufrene, Contractor Driver Roger Parker and Contractor Team John and Sherry Hufford.

Con-way also announced that it will send 89 drivers to the 72nd annual American Trucking Associations National Truck Driving Championships. A total of 88 Con-way Freight drivers and one Con-way Truckload driver will participate after qualifying by winning first place in any of nine equipment classes in state competition.

Gordon Trucking wins state award
Gordon Trucking was recognized by the Washington State Patrol, WTA and Great West Casualty Truck Insurance as the Grand Champion for Safety among all fleets in Washington State.

Gordon Trucking uses heavier six-axle trucks that are allowed in Washington State and proposed nationwide by the Safe and Efficient Transportation Act.

West Side Transport announces drivers of the month
West Side Transport named its May and June Drivers of the Month. In May, Robert Brislin of Towanda, Pa., and Chris Griffin of Nashville, Tenn., were honored. Brislin has been with West Side for 15 years, and Griffin joined the company in 2007. June’s Driver of the Month was Jim Turman of Manchester, Iowa, who’s been with West Side for 18 years. Also awarded in June as the Instant Impact winner was Thomas Maune of St. Louis, Mo. The Instant Impact award is given to a driver who has been employed between three and 12 months. Maune joined West Side in September 2008. Criteria for selection of the monthly awards include excellent fuel management, no preventable accidents, no service failures in the last 12 months, no log violations in the last 12 months, no DOT out of service violations in the last 12 months, attitude and professionalism.
