For the fourth week in a row, the national average retail price of diesel fell the week ended Aug. 22, dipping 2.5 cents to $3.81 a gallon, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.
Average prices in all regions dropped in the latest week. The biggest decrease was in the Central Atlantic area, falling 3.9 cents to $3.944. The Gulf Coast dropped 3.4 cents to $3,772, the lowest average price in the U.S. All regions are below $4 a gallon.
With the latest price drop, the national average price is 85.3 cents higher than a year ago. The record diesel price was $4.764 in July 2008.
