Trucker finds real Facebook friends

user-gravatar Headshot

Dear Carolyn,

I have been going through a really rough time lately. Believe it or not, I have found strength through other truckers I have met online. These “strangers” have given me good advice, prayed for me and helped me make it through the darkest time of my life. I know you don’t believe that they can be “real friends” but compared to the people in my so-called “real life,” these people are way better.

I think you ought to consider changing your mind about Facebook and friends.

Will

Dear WIll,

Actually, now that you mention it, I think you are right. I’ve seen how supportive a good group, (like Truckn’ Runners on Facebook and Truckers News on Facebook) can be. I think that anytime you find a group based on interests/activities/work or faith, you can find a supportive place to exchange ideas and develop friendships.

I’m glad you have found a supportive group of friends and I appreciate your letter. Consider my mind officially “changed.”

A question for my readers:  Where do you find good trucking conversations online?

Carolyn
