East Coast, Gulf port strikes avoided

The two parties involved in a labor dispute and contract negotiations that could have resulted in strikes at more than a dozen ports on the East and Gulf Coasts — the International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance — have reached an agreement, says the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service.
