Speaking at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., Drivewyze Vice President Brian Mofford said owner-operators are leading the pack among new users of their PreClear weigh-station bypassing system, in aggressive expansion mode following launch last August. “They own their businesses,” Mofford said by way of an explanation.

Owner-operators “can move the quickest” among potential Drivewyze customers — individual company drivers, owner-ops and small and large carriers — toward adoption when they see a beneficial technology, Mofford added.

The system is functional on most smartphones and tablets and utilizes devices’ GPS and wireless communication capabilities to operate. It will soon be functional on other in-cab communications devices as well, Mofford said, as the company looks to integrate their systems within existing hardware. Early this month, the company inked a memorandum of understanding with PeopleNet, and at MATS announced a new marketing relationship with XRS (formerly Xata) that will give XRS customers an ongoing percentage discount on the Drivewyze bypass service (typically $12.99 for interstate haulers, $7.99 intrastate).

In the context of distracted driving regulations, Mofford said, PreClear is a solution to the problem of too many devices cluttering the windshield. “We designed the system to integrate with any equipment with a display and that provides GPS coordinates,” he said, “to reduce the amount of equipment needed in the cab.”
