A brand-new Kenworth T680 Advantage is once again up for grabs as part of the 2018 “Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence” military veteran trucker recognition program.

Kenworth, Fastport and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes initiative are joining together for the third consecutive year to promote trucking and to recognize the top rookie military veteran driver.

The nomination period began Thursday, March 15, and goes through June 30. Nomination forms can be found online here.

The top driver will be chosen by a panel of judges and will receive the Kenworth tractor, which features a 76-inch sleeper, 455-hp Paccar MX-13 and Paccar 40,000-pound tandem rear axle. To qualify for the program, drivers must meet the following requirements:

  • Must have been active military or member of the National Guard or Reserve
  • Graduated from a Professional Truck Driver Institute-certified, MAPFTDS or CVTA member driver training school with a valid CDL
  • Employed by a trucking company that has made a hiring commitment and pledge to hire veterans on the Trucking Track Mentoring Program website
  • First hired in a trucking position between Jan. 1, 2017, and June 30, 2018

Last year, U.S. Army veteran and Stevens Transport driver Gregg Softy won the award.
