Landstar app helps optimize multi-leg runs

Updated Jun 27, 2018

Landstar has launched a new mobile app, Landstar Maximizer, for Android and iOS devices. It’s designed to help its leased owner-operators maximize revenue on multi-leg runs. The app includes a robust search engine into the Landstar universe of freight, facilitating bookings of back-to-back loads to create multi-leg, full-week runs.

After entering a destination, origin and date range, an owner-operator clicks the app’s “Ask Max” button and the Landstar-exclusive technology takes seconds to find a combination of loads to fit the parameters, the company says. The app “does more than connect dots on a map – it analyzes rates, distance and time, and presents the owner-operator with the best possible load combinations to maximize the potential revenue they can generate for the time period they choose.”

The results display destination/pick-up cities and dates, and revenue per load. The owner-operator then can choose which combination best meets his or her needs. Contact with the company agent handling loads remains the primary avenue toward booking.

The mobile app launched in beta version in late 2017 to a small group of Landstar contractors. Since the full recent roll-out this year, the company says, nearly 70 percent of the more than 9,600 company owner-operators, or “business capacity owners,” have downloaded and used the tool.
