Truckers who frequently travel through Nashville should begin planning for delays going through or around the city as the Tennessee Department of Transportation will begin a 17-month reconstruction project on I-440 on March 1.

Traffic will be shifted on I-440 beginning in March for work to begin in the median area, which will include restricting traffic to two lanes in each direction during the day and one lane in each direction at night, shortening merging lanes and closing shoulders.

Work will begin west of I-65 between the Granny White Pike area and West End Avenue. The contractor will move west with operations to I-40, then continue work from I-65 to I-24. By early spring this year, the entirety of I-440 is expected to be under heavy construction, TDOT says.

Lane closures will also likely occur on I-40, I-65, and I-24 as work progresses.

The project is expected to be completed in August 2020.
