A truck driver was arrested for marijuana possession and inspectors issued nine out-of-service orders and 19 citations during a two-day inspection blitz in Indiana last week.

Troopers conducted the blitz for three hours on Wednesday, March 13 and for four hours Thursday, March 14 on the Indiana Toll Road rest area eastbound and westbound at milemarker 37 and at the eastbound and westbound scales on I-94 at milemarker 28.

A press release from Indiana State Police says truck driver Dustin M. Arnold of Georgia was found to have his license suspended and, while talking with the Arnold, inspectors noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from inside the truck.

Troopers found he was in possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana, along with a bottle of vodka – the possession of which is against federal regulations for truckers while on-duty, operating or in physical control of a commercial motor vehicle. Arnold was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

In addition to the arrest, ISP troopers at the I-94 scales on Wednesday targeted trucks that bypassed the scales when the signal told all trucks to enter. Results included:

  • 27 inspections
  • 50 violations
  • 1 truck placed out-of-service for an equipment violation
  • 10 citations
  • 13 warnings

On Thursday on the Indiana Toll Road, troopers weighed and inspected random trucks with portable scales. Results included:

  • 27 inspections
  • 51 violations
  • 3 trucks placed out-of-service
  • 5 drivers placed out-of-service
  • 9 citations
  • 13 warnings
