Truckers Against Trafficking received a donation of more than $100,000 from TravelCenters of America at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky, on Friday.

Throughout January and February, TA-Petro sold TAT merchandise with $1 of every item sold going to TAT. The total amount donated to TAT was $112,946.

“TA-Petro’s work demonstrates why the trucking industry is a critical player in the role to end human trafficking,” said Helen Van Dam, director of TAT’s Freedom Drivers Project. “This goes to demonstrate that the trucking industry is not only seeing it, but when trained and equipped to do something about it, they make a critical impact, and this is leading to lives changed. Every individual whose life is changed – that’s worth it.”

Van Dam says the donation puts TA-Petro as a top level donor for the foundation and that the money will be used to help distribute training materials throughout the trucking industry to help drivers identify human trafficking, train law enforcement to know how to deal with trafficking and more.
