New solar trailer tracker from Transflo

Transflo Trailer Tracking is a newly available solar-powered device that integrates into the Transflo Mobile+ platform to give managers of fleet of all sizes near real-time communications and GPS-based tracking of trailers, containers and other assets not necessarily tethered to a single power unit.

It could be useful for trailer pools, “power-only” freight, temperature-controlled fleets and/or “any operation where you want to eliminate unproductive time and improve communication with drivers, customers, administrators, and maintenance personnel,” said Transflo Product Vice President Doug Schrier. “Because the unit is solar powered, it can be mounted to virtually any asset, which extends its value and versatility.”

The TT600-series device is manufactured by Flex. It’s compact, rugged and simple to install, Transflo says. A solar cell delivers charging capability to a back-up battery that can last up to four months without solar charge. The unit provides complete transparency into the utilization, dwell time and movements of critical assets.

At 10.3 by 3.5 by 1.2 inches, the TT600 unit uses little space and attaches to the trailer or other asset with just four rivets, screws, or bolts. The solar cell and large backup battery can provide virtually uninterrupted untethered power. At 10.3 by 3.5 by 1.2 inches, the TT600 unit uses little space and attaches to the trailer or other asset with just four rivets, screws, or bolts. The device contains a power-efficient 4G-capable chipset with a 2G backup for always-on two-way cellular. It produces one GPS fix per minute when in motion for a steady stream of location information, and an optional connector allows for advanced data capture from trailer sensors, including vehicle health and status, theft and tampering alerts, and remote reefer-unit control and temperature monitoring.
