Joe Biden’s remarks over the years have included references to the truck driver who was driving the tractor-trailer that collided with his wife’s car in the early 1970s, killing her and Biden’s daughter and injuring their two sons. Some drivers were surprised to learn of the reality of that wreck from Inside Edition’s August 27 story on the incident. Biden, see, has often referred to reports that the truck driver had just come from a meal wherein he “>drank his lunch instead of eating his lunch.” As Inside Edition reported, though, the truck driver, Curtis Dunn (who died in 1999 at age 74), was never charged with any violation at all — in fact, Biden’s wife had simply not seen him coming down the highway when she pulled into the road from a stop sign. Asked about the apparent discrepancies in the historical record and his statements, Biden offered little except that the incident was hard on all parties involved. Some posters over at Truck.Net had more to say, of course.

And while Truckers and Citizens United was calling for a parade protest at the Republican National Convention earlier this week, Teamster Local 299 Recording Secretary and former car hauler Roy Gross was basking in the afterglow of his speech at the Democratic National Convention. In case you missed it, its on YouTube here. One thought on it: didn’t the so-called “>New Economy” originate under Clinton?
