John Walker’s truck
Owner of J&W Corp., John Walker of Somerville, Tenn., hauls grain, lime, fertilizer and machinery with his 2006 Peterbilt 379. Equipped with a 550-hp Caterpillar and an 18-speed transmission, the truck has a painted visor and blinker bars, a 22-in. flip-up front bumper, a billet aluminum grille and 6-in. stacks. The interior of the truck has a painted dash and panels, a 4-ft. custom gearshift and a billet aluminum steering wheel. Walker wins a hat, travel bag and license plate from United Pacific.
Old School
Wes Krahn, of McAlisterville, Pa., owns this 1985 Kenworth K100 cabover, which runs on a 400-hp Caterpillar and 13-speed transmission. Krahn hauls stepdeck freight in 25 states. He has stretched and repainted the cab and plans to do more work in the future.
Purple Pete
Summit Sales Group of Holland, Mich., hauls commercial waste and recycling equipment in this 2003 Peterbilt 379, powered by a 550-hp Caterpillar with an 18-speed transmission. Summit and K&R Truck Sales added a 20-in. bumper, 13-in. drop visor, custom grille, 8-in. straight pipes and lots of lights. Brandon Verwolf is the driver.
Class Act
Chad LaBorde hauls coal and stone in Pennsylvania in this 2009 Peterbilt 389, equipped with a 550-hp Caterpillar.
Ol’ Glory
Tim Philmon of Middleburg, Fla., hauls flatbed freight, such as these hay balers, in 48 states in this 2005 Peterbilt 379, powered by a 550-hp Caterpillar. “These colors don’t bleed,” Philmon says of his red, white and blue truck.
