Bruce Cone’s 2010 Peterbilt 389 is shown here as he was delivering loads of fire retardant to various parts of California affected by wildfires this summer. The rig sports a 485-hp Cummins ISX with an Eaton-Fuller 13-speed with 3:55 rears. So far, the only customization on the truck is his drop visor. Cone, out of Redding, California, normally hauls lumber of out White City, Oregon, to the California Bay Area, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Woodland, California, and more.
Near the end of July, Cone contacted a company that needed fire retardant hauled for the wildfires and was sent to McClellan Air Force Base to pick up a load of retardant going to the Ukiah, California, fire. He then hauled a load of retardant going to Lewiston, California, for the Carr fire. The next day, he went back to Sacramento to get another load of retardant heading back to Lewiston.
