Ryder System announced its Ryder Electronic Logging Device (ELD) platform, which will provide a solution to make it easier for commercial rental customers in North America to record their hours of service (HOS) electronically to comply with the December 18, 2017 ELD mandate. With the launch of the ELD platform, developed in concert with the Geotab e-log provider (which allows for a BYOD-type set-up, paired with the operator’s smartphone/tablet), Ryder is also offering rental customers to ability to choose between Ryder’s solution or their own portable ELD equipment.
In addition, Ryder says it will continue to work in conjunction with the Truck Rental and Leasing Association (TRALA) and the government on behalf of customers to mitigate challenges presented by the ELD mandate. The company is “pleased,” it says, that FMCSA has granted an 8-day exemption to allow paper logs in rentals for instances of a vehicle breakdown, seasonal demand, and expansion needs.
The company also hosts an online ELD Mandate Resource Guide, where the most commonly asked questions regarding the ELD Mandate are answered, it says.
