The Small Business in Transportation Coalition has asked the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to waive the required use of electronic logging devices for carriers who employ fewer than 50 employees, which obviously includes single-truck owner-operators.
The agency is accepting public comments on the SBTC’s exemption request for 30 days following its publication in the Federal Register, which is slated for Tuesday morning.
The Small Business in Transportation Coalition is headed by James P. Lamb, who was accused by the Federal Trade Commission of using deceptive sales tactics to trick owner-operators and small carriers into paying unnecessary fees to file registration documents with the U.S. DOT and UCR. These claims were later settled with a $900,000 settlement paid by Lamb’s business associate Uliana Bogash.
