FMCSA extends comment period for small carrier ELD exemption request

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on Friday published a notice that the comment period for the Small Business in Transportation Coalition’s ELD exemption request has been extended through July 16.

FMCSA says “a reported technical difficulty with the online filing of comments for several days” prompted the extension “to ensure that all commenters have an opportunity to submit their online comments.”

SBTC’s petition requests an exemption from the electronic logging device mandate for carriers with fewer than 50 employees. It’s unclear if the waiver would apply to owner-operators without operating authority who are leased to a larger carrier.
