The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration on Thursday announced five ELDs were removed from the registered devices list.
Those five devices are as follows:

UZB2USA representatives confirmed the Moonlight ELD device had been revoked, said the company offers other ELDs, but wouldn't comment on whether or not they'd been in touch with FMCSA.
Moonlight ELD boasts integrations with Highway, Project44, Descartes and C.H. Robinson. Its website says the ELD is in more than 1,500 trucks used by upward of 300 companies.
This batch of revoked ELDs includes two from the same provider, HGRS. Both HGRS ELD and Highest ELD's apps appear to have been removed from the Google Play store.
The National Motor Freight Traffic Association Chief Operating Officer Joe Ohr has been researching "chameleon ELDs" and described a trend of "white labeling" ELDs, or registering dozens or hundreds of near-identical ELDs with FMCSA. The practice, he suspects, conceals hours of service cheating.
Ohr said FMCSA has been very responsive to his research and wants to act quickly in revoking faulty ELDs.
"If you’ve got one company that’s white-labeled 50 ELDs," and one is compromised, said Ohr, "you need to revoke all 50."
With the five devices newly revoked, FMCSA has removed a total of 95 devices from the ELD registry since January 2025.
Motor carriers and drivers have up to 60 days to replace the revoked devices with a compliant ELD on FMCSA’s Registered Devices list. As usual for revoked ELDs, FMCSA is asking carriers to:
- Discontinue using the revoked ELDs and revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours of service data
- Replace the revoked ELDs with a compliant ELD before Oct. 6
Prior to Oct. 6, law enforcement are encouraged not to cite drivers using the revoked ELDs for 395.8(a)(1) – “No record of duty status” or 395.22(a) – “Failing to use a registered ELD.” Instead, safety officials should request the driver’s paper logs, logging software, or use the ELD display as a back-up method to review the hours-of-service data.
After that date, however, carriers and drivers who continue to use the revoked ELDs will be considered as operating without an ELD and are subject to being cited for a 395.8(a)(1) violation and placed out-of-service.
If the ELD providers correct all identified deficiencies for their devices, FMCSA will place the ELD back on the list of registered devices and inform the industry of the update.
