Schneider driver wins Trucker Buddy award
Schneider National company driver Henry R. Good has won the 2010 Gary King Memorial Award, Tuscaloosa, Ala.-based Trucker Buddy International announced. Presented at the recent Walcott Jamboree in Walcott, Iowa, the award honors truckers for outstanding volunteer work in the Trucker Buddy program, a school outreach effort that seeks to educate children and youth about trucking and encourage their scholastic pursuits. Good is among the truckers who volunteered in 1992 when the program started, says Randy Schwartzenburg, executive director of Trucker Buddy International. Good is known in the truck beauty show circuit for his 1981 Kenworth K100C VIT Aerodyne cabover, often described as Hank’s Highway Hilton.
Team driving opportunity
John Christner Trucking is offering 97 cents per mile for joining as a lease-operator or owner-operator team. The company says the new program will allow teams to drive in friendly lanes and haul drop-and-hook freight. Teams have priority dispatch and three primary running lanes from California.
Crete receives Owens Corning truckload carrier award
Owens Corning has recognized Crete as its Enterprise Carrier of the Year for the third straight year. Crete has shipped 16,400 loads of Owens Corning insulation, shingles and building materials during the past year.
Safe driver wins Harley
Company driver Carroll Connor has won a 2010 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide in the Evans Delivery safest driver drawing, the Schuylkill Haven, Pa.-based carrier said. Connor has been a commercial driver for 16 years and has had no safety violations, a company spokesman said. Drivers eligible for the annual drawing must have had no accidents or incidents in a calendar year
Marten Transport raises layover pay
Marten Transport increased its layover pay to drivers $100 per day, the Mondovi, Wis.-based carrier announced in June. In a recent driver wages survey, the National Transportation Institute rated the carrier as having one of the nation’s best total compensation packages. The company says it also plans to open a new terminal in Phoenix this summer.
